Where Is The Mercy? is the brand new single from the incredibly talented JJ Rosa. This marks JJ‘s first release of the year, with more hopefully coming in the new year, and if those that follow are anything like this, I think we’re in for a treat!
The track demonstrates an exceptional level of musicality, both in how the song grows throughout and JJ‘s contribution. The song draws in the listener brilliantly, it reminds me of some of the more modern aspects of Bastille and Alex Clare. Yet the overall theme of this track creates a more immersive experience when listening to the song, by starting quite small before the chorus enters and JJ Rosa explodes with her colossal vocal melody.
It’s not just power that JJ brings to the track, there’s an incredible level of emotion in her voice, both in the diminutive sections and the soaring heights. Further than this, her guitar playing is excellent, climaxing in a solo that could make Van Halen jealous. It fits the songs fantastically and demonstrates her proficiency on the instrument, therefore it poses no wonder why she was chosen to perform at Fender‘s 60th Stratocaster Anniversary.
Her fresh, unique and distinctive sound has, quite rightly, attracted impressive praise from celebrities and industry professionals alike. Rowetta, (Happy Mondays), Clint Boon (Radio X & Inspiral Carpets), and Labrinth have all spoken out about her talent. This acclaim has led to comparisons with Nile Rogers, and JJ being dubbed as ‘a female prince’. These are powerful claims, yet they are ones I feel are rightly deserved as JJ Rosa’s delightful portfolio of songs to date builds upon the distinctive sounds of these performers and help bring it forward into the modern era.
JJ‘s impressive performances are not only on record, having spent the previous touring and performing at a variety of festivals around the UK, most notably, opening for Stevie Wonder at London’s Calling festival.
To summarise, Where Is The Mercy? is an excellently deep and powerful track, based upon a well-conceived theme and enhanced by the brilliant performance of JJ Rosa. In whom, an artist with world class potential, and an exciting future ahead has been uncovered. A really great track that’s destined for the success it deserves.
